What is Youtube?
YouTube is a website that allows you to do two things:
1) Find appropriate video content and share them with your class, or
2) upload video content for distribution over the internet. Static, text and paper-based marketing has now evolved into the world of video. You have the capability through your own YouTube channel to present the content you create.
Recent additions to YouTube has made it even more appealing, including high definition video, text from speech processing of your video, and YouTube Live which allows real time broadcasting of live classes or events through YouTube.
What is Youtube Best Used for?
You can find videos that make the subject of your lesson more applicable to students’ everyday lives. You can teach students video production and editing skills through projects and upload the videos to your classes YouTube channel.
Using Youtube
When you search youtube see the volume of material that is there on any subject you will quickly see, there are many ways that YouTube can help out in your course. Whether you’re an instructor or a student, YouTube can be a big benefit to you.
Create Your Account
This first thing to do is create your account and fill out your profile. Select a username that is very relevant, and use your exact business name or as close to it as possible. Fill in your relevant information, including location, and an accurate, compelling and short description of your business.
Go to http://www.youtube.com/create_account
After you’ve entered your desired username, email address, and other basic info, YouTube will ask you to sign in with a Google Account (Google owns YouTube). It’s a good idea to create a Google Account strictly for your course; other Google applications like Gmail and Google+ are linked to your account. You’ll want to keep your class and personal activities separate.
On the next screen, you may be asked to confirm your account via a text message or a voice call so that YouTube can confirm the account wasn’t created for spamming purposes. Finally, YouTube will send a verification email to the address you used to create the account. Click the link in that email to verify your account.
